It is a well known fact that a small bathroom can be very uninviting; or rather it can appear uninviting and cramped especially if it is a guest bathroom. The last thing you would want is for your guests to feel uninvited because the bathroom appears so. However, there is very little we can do in an already constructed bathroom, and the only option we are left with is to try as much as we can to create an Illusion of space. Luckily, the market has tile designs and ideas of various decorating techniques to help you make an otherwise small bathroom appear much bigger and attractive.

One very common way to achieve this is to add tiles in your bathroom. Not only will you give your bathroom a brand new look when you introduce tiles and replace that unsightly linoleum that has been there for ages, you will be introducing a very durable flooring option that is also very easy to clean and maintain. It is very important to put into consideration two basic design elements when it comes to giving a small bathroom a makeover with the use of tiles. First and foremost, you should know that the color of the tiles that you choose play a very critical role.

Small bathrooms need to have brightly colored tiles as dark colored ones will only make the bathroom appear tiny and very cramped. If you must use colored tiles, always go for tiles that are close to color white as you possibly can. You can go for glass tiles, ceramic tiles or even mosaic tiles as long as they are brightly colored and more importantly as long as they within your budget and meet your tastes. Shades of pastel and beige will also work as well as they are bright in color. The main advantage of a bright colored tile design is that it will reflect light, thus making the area appear spacious and attractive at the same time.

Perhaps you are thinking that white is too bright for the bathroom? Or maybe it will be very white, so to speak. You can always add in some color by introducing colored tiles randomly in between the white tiles. Alternatively, colored tiles can make a perfect border for your white bathroom tiles and you will end up with a bathroom that is everything but dull.

The other notable aspect of tiling a tiny bathroom is to try and tile the bath or shower area differently. In other words, try and demarcate the bath area so that it appears different, but not very different from the rest of the bathroom. Should you use a different tile design, ensure it complements tiles in the other parts of the bathroom so you don’t create an obviously alienated shower area. You can even lay the tiles out in a unique arrangement so the shower area is a little different from the rest of the bathroom.

Hopefully these tile ideas will help make your tiny bathroom a tiny haven rather than a dull cramped space.
